Serenity Ranch Kennels Trains your dog to learn over 10 Obedience Commands.

Serenity Ranch Kennels Obedience Commands:

Your dog will be able to learn all of the following commands in each of our Board & Train Programs.

Name

We train your dog to be attentive to their name. It’s very important that you start each new command with their name if your dog is distracted or has not been on command for some time!

Sit

Good performance is when the dog’s rear is completely on the floor.

Down

Good performance is when all four elbows are on the floor.

Place

Good performance is when all four paws are on the place board. It’s important to show your dog the boundaries of your place. One place is recommended to begin, and then additional places in and around your household can be introduced making sure the dog understands the boundaries.

Come

This command is used for recall. When your dog starts to comply use praise as they are heading in your direction. The end of the behavior is for the dog to automatically sit.

Heel

Good performance is when your dog is walking politely at left side. Not in front of you or lagging behind or sniffing the ground. Praise when in compliance.

Kennels

Good performance is to have your dog’s sit before entering and polite moment before exiting. This command can be used when putting your dog in a confined area such as a crate, car, or exercise area.

Free

When you would like your dog to come out of the kennel or off any command that you have given.

Off

This command is to be used when your dog is jumping on anything or anybody.

Hush

This is the command to be used when your dog is barking.

No

Is used to mark bad behavior of any kind. An example would be “if your dog is barking incessantly” the command would be “no, hush”.

Good

Used when in compliance or have shown positive behavior.

How to give a correction

Your dog will be well trained at Serenity Ranch and you will be shown how to continue this at home using commands and marker-words that we have trained them to obey.

If your dog does not comply with what you’ve asked or happens to break any command you have given, it’s important that you mark that behavior with no and correct, then restate the command. It’s extremely important that you put the dog back in the same position that they were prior to the mistake.

An example would be if you ask your dog to sit and they came off of that particular command you would simply say “no”, correct, then sit, and put them back in the same spot. When you say the word “no”, use your leash to administer the correction if necessary to help your dog fully understand what you’re asking.. Then re-state the command.

Praise for a good performance when they are in compliance. Treat occasionally but don’t over treat or be overly affectionate.
